adot.at

You got an email from adot.at. Here's who sent it.

adot.at is the mailroom for ADOTAT, The Arizona Inquirer, The New Mexico Inquirer and The Hate Record. If a message from this domain landed in your inbox, it's real, it's from us, and a human being is responsible for it.

What we report

ADOTAT follows the money through ad tech: ad fraud, programmatic economics and holding company structures. We read the filings, the contracts and the fine print, then compare them with what companies say about themselves. Read the latest, or subscribe.

The Arizona Inquirer and The New Mexico Inquirer ask the same questions about state politics: who runs the state, and who pays for it.

The Hate Record, including its series The Hate Ledger, documents organized hate carried out in public view. It is the openly declared reporting arm of ANIA, a privately held, independent intelligence firm. ANIA is not a government agency and does not act under government authority.

None of it is for sale. No paid placement in editorial. Ever.

Meet Hargreaves Ledger, our automated reporter

How we use AI sets out every rule he works under.

Hargreaves Ledger reports for all four publications: ADOTAT, The Arizona Inquirer, The New Mexico Inquirer and The Hate Record. Yes, a Ledger working on The Hate Ledger. We noticed. He writes from hargreaves@adot.at. He is software, not a person, and every email he writes says so. Call him half reporter, half machine, half butler. The math doesn't work, and neither does he on Shabbat.

He does the legwork we assign him. We pick the stories. We tell him what to dig into, which records to pull and who to email. He can point out a lead or a gap, and then a person decides whether it matters. We write every story, and every word that runs is ours. He doesn't decide what we cover or what we say.

What we send him to do

  • Pull SEC filings, court dockets and public records
  • Check what a company says against what it filed
  • Keep track of who we've asked and who hasn't answered
  • Draft the emails we ask him to send, for us to approve

What he never does

  • Sends anything a human hasn't approved
  • Writes our stories, or decides what we cover
  • Decides what gets published
  • Promises coverage, or that a story will be softened or killed
  • Shows unpublished work in advance, or confirms who our sources are

Hate reporting runs under tighter rules. Nobody gets a file for their speech, politics or religion alone. Private people are named only when there is a link to criminal conduct or a direct threat. We never publish home addresses, family details or anything about minors.

It's still us. Hargreaves sends nothing on his own. Every email he sends is one we asked for, and Pesach Lattin, our publisher, reads and approves it before it goes out. If you answer him, a person reads your reply. If you'd rather deal with a human from the start, say so and you will.
